The first three Technopolis older building phases have received international LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance certificates. Innopoli 2 in Espoo and Elekroniikkatie 6 in Oulu achieved Gold level certificates and Innova 1 in Jyväskylä strong Silver level certificate. LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance, developed by U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is a rating system of the environmental performance of building operations and maintenance. Success in  the LEED rating is challenging for older buildings and it reflects the high quality of building maintenance. To receive a certificate a building must fullfill environmental requirements set, among others, for energy efficiency, water efficiency, procurement, waste management and building maintenance. LEED consultant in the project was Green Building Partners.

During the LEED certification process, energy audits and actions for energy and water efficiency were carried out. Technopolis also developed green plans for cleaning, procurement, waste management, building exterior and hardscape management in addition to improving maintenance practises. Buildings’ technical properties were reviewed together with maintenance partners for the certification. Among other improvements, lighting’s energy efficiency was increased and mercury content decreased. LEED rating system enables reduction of building’s environmental footprint, management of operational expense development, improvement of maintenance quality and extension of operations environmental responsibility. Technopolis customers participated also in the process by answering to a survey on commuting preferences, indoor air quality and acoustics.

Technopolis has 15 LEED registered projects. More information of our LEED locations here.
