Technopolis Offers 100% Green Electricity to Customers in Finland Starting From 2012

Technopolis Offers 100% Green Electricity to Customers in Finland Starting From 2012

Technopolis will increase the proportion of green electricity to 100% in its property stock in Finland from the beginning of next year. This will allow the nearly 1,200 companies in leased Technopolis premises to use electricity produced with renewable energy sources.

In the future, green electricity will be procured for all Technopolis campuses in Finland from Oulu Electricity Sales, Kuopio Energy and Vantaa Energy. The origin of the electricity is also verified by a third party, Inspecta.

”Technopolis has been focused on increasing its efforts in environmental responsibility. By procuring 100% green electricity in Finland from the beginning of 2012, Technopolis is implementing its environmental strategy for 2011–2015, aiming to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent. Green electricity will help reduce our carbon footprint while also enabling us to offer our customers in Finland a more environmentally friendly office environment. We are aiming at the same environmental targets in international units and therefore studying opportunities to increase the use of green electricity in our international operations. In addition to green electricity, Technopolis focuses on improving energy efficiency of its properties, pursuing LEED building ratings and developing its environmental reporting, among other efforts,” says Virve Riihonen, Development and Environmental Manager at Technopolis Plc.

In 2010, approximately 45 percent of electricity purchased by Technopolis was produced with renewable energy sources.
